Frequently Asked Questions

I know you've probably got a few questions after browsing the site, so let me answer some of the most common questions I get from brides before they are ready to book.

How much is the deposit to reserve our date?

I understand weddings are expensive! I always try to remain flexible when it comes to payments by asking for 1/3rd the package price if we are outside of the 6 month mark, the second 1/3rd will be due at 6 months out. If we are within 6 months, I ask for a deposit of 1/2 your package price to reserve your date. Regardless, the first deposit will be due with your signed agreement (contract), which outlines all the terms of your packages, payments, deadlines, etc. The final payment is due on or before the wedding day.

How long until I get my photos/videos back after my wedding day?

I know you're anxious, but I ask for a standard 8 weeks on photos, 12 weeks for videos, and an additional 4 weeks for your full video if you have a cinematic package. I try to get photo teasers out within a few days of the wedding. WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO GET MY MEMORIES BACK?! Many videography companies will ask for 6 months to turn around videos! Crazy, I know. However, I ask for this conservative amount of time because we shoot a lot of events and I give every project the amount of time it deserves in editing. Being that most edits I do are creative edits, I spend as much time as is necessary to make every edit the best it can be. Patience is greatly appreciated!!

If I book photos and video, who will shoot photos? Video?

While I am happy to add a second photo shooter to any wedding I shoot, I do not currently hire other photographers to primarily lead a wedding for me. I will be your photographer if you book photography. If you book both video and photo, I will still be your photographer and one of my other shooters will cover video. An additional shooter adds a tremendous amount of value to the wedding day because it allows us to be in more than one place at a time, and it will provide additional footage and photos to work with as we work in post production.

You already have my wedding date booked... Can you double-book days?

NO and YES.
I, personally, will never shoot two weddings in one day. However, we FREQUENTLY double-book videography on dates if we have shooter availability. While my undivided attention may be on a wedding where myself and another shooter are operating, it is not uncommon for another crew to be shooting another wedding. These are always experienced shooters and leaders who have shot MANY weddings with me and for me. I will never send a shooter to your wedding if I don't think they can produce the same quality work I expect from myself. SO HOW IS IT A SELBY FILM IF YOU AREN'T SHOOTING IT? I trust these shooters, to the very fullest, to represent my business. I will never have you book an event without first telling you about my own availability for your wedding day. Furthermore, ALL the editing still goes through yours truly. The special seasoning, if you will, still goes into your edit ;)

How do you select the music you use for your edits? Do we get to have input on the editing?

I am always happy to have your input on the style of music you like and expect in your video, but keep in mind, music is an integral part of the story-telling process, and in order to tell your story effectively, I need to have creative control. In addition, not every song can be used (especially popular music), due to copyright and legality issues. Rest assured, we are good at finding beautiful, effective, licensed music to be used for your wedding video. Customer service is important, so if there is something you don’t like, I will bend over backwards to make it right!

What kind of equipment do you use? Do you bring artificial lights?

We shoot on professional grade, high definition mirrorless and DSLR cameras. Combined with speedlites (for flash), we use interchangeable, wide and zoom lenses to capture your day. You almost NEVER find us shooting handheld video, as we prefer to compose steady shots from a tripod, monopod, slider, or other stabilizer. With an array of lenses, we are ready to shoot in extreme low light situations. We do not use LED lights for video unless we have no other option. Quite frankly, LED lights are effective... and really annoying and unnatural.

Our microphones are not bulky. We typically use Sennheisser or Sony brand lavalier mics and Zoom or Tascam brand field recorders because we care about getting the best possible audio quality during interviews, ceremony, toasts, etc. We are prepared to capture your event in the most effective and natural way possible.

We don't need everything you're offering in your packages. Can we modify a package?

Keeping in mind that there are only so many popular Saturdays in a year, I will certainly do everything I can to work with you on a package. No matter what your budget is, or how long your event is, it cannot hurt to contact me and let me know the details. If I can't help you, I will definitely make a very good recommendation to someone who can!

What makes you different from other Wedding companies?

I hope my work is my greatest ambassador for answering this question. With vast amounts of experience in live event video and photography, I understand and strive to execute all facets of the wedding video/photo process in a professional manner. Some photographers (or videographers) have great instincts in shot placement, or editing, crowd control, customer service, time management, storytelling, etc... But we are well-balanced in all these categories, and we greatly value the importance of service above all else.
